MRI section by Kirsty Halliday (additional material Cliff Porter and YNIC).

As MRI technology was central to the whole project it was one of the first topics we covered with the school group we were working with.

One of the first sessions with the group was held at York Neuroimaging Centre (YNiC) where staff gave the pupils a tour around the centre. The pupils were able to see both the MEG and MRI scanners and staff explained how they both worked.

The pupils were then given the chance to create images from MRI scan data using the analysis software Osirix.

The pupils were given another chance to visit YNiC later in the project and members of the project team spent a good deal of time there, finding out more about the technologies used and the ethical issues surrounding them and attending the scans of the people who agreed to take part in the project.
